January 1st Game Day
Just a quick update on our game day. My buddy Chad came over along with his fiancee Mindy for some games and some Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese Soup. I wanted to teach Chad Power Grid as I knew he'd enjoy it (he enjoys money games) and everyone graciously went along with the ride.
Power Grid - We explained the game to Chad and Mindy then said we'd play a round or two with the option of resetting the game. After the first two rounds, no one was interested in resetting, so we plowed through. After another turn, Tim showed up so he took over for me and I took over as banker/coach for Chad and Mindy.
It was a weird game as we had a boat load of big plants out early which tended to hose those who waited as the last four plants before stage three were all under 20. It was a fun game and ended with Mindy placing the 17th city and three players (including her) could power 12. It all came down to money and Mindy and her wind powered supply had the most cash at the end. Overall, everyone enjoyed it and we had a good time.
Cloud 9 - Joey (aka the Voice of MouseGuest) was jumping to join us and I thought this would be a light game that he could join. And considering he was the only one who bailed on the first stage on three straight turns for the only points in the round, I think he caught on pretty quick. Tim won this one with Mindy coming in second. I managed to not come in last, which is all I wanted.
Villa Paletti - It was close to time for Chad to leave, so I wanted to bust out one more game over pie. Well, maybe this wasn't the best option, but we all had a blast. I don't recall who won the first game, but I know that Julie placed the last post in the second. We played a party game version where you rolled the master builder block and then moved that pillar. It was a good time and Tim was the one who literally brought the house down.
Overall, it was a great way to ring in the new year. We're hopeful to have folks over at least once a month to play some games. Until next time remember ... the Force will be with you, always.
